On October 19th – 20th, 2017 Kalyca Adolescent Community held a retreat called Kalyca Adolescent Community Character Champ at Omah Jawi Jl. Dusun Boyong RT 05 RW 11, Kaliurang, Hargobinangun, Pakem, Sleman. We had Alive (Roman 6: 110) as our theme in this retreat. This retreat divided into four session which were:
Opening : Child of God
Students learned how it should be to be child of God and Christ followers.
Session 1 : Father’s Heart
Students learned to understand about God’s love as a Father to their children and student were invited to be a person that suit with God’s words.
Session 2 : Self Image
Students were invited to understand how God is so unbelievable and extraordinary when He creates human.
Session 3 : Empowerment
Students were invited to understand that as a child of God, Holy Spirit gives us strength to live in God’s words and to be a blessing for others.

Minitrip is one of Kalyca’s event in a semester. Children will learn something from this event. In this semester, Kalyca kinderganten children went to Dinas Pemadam Kebakaran. It was held on Tuesday, 19 of September 2017. They learn about the job description of fire fighter. They also learn about disaster protection and what to do in wildfire.
The children had experiences in wearing fire figter uniform and extinguishing the fire. In the end, the children and the teachers played with the water together. It was a great day!
Fieldtrip is one of Kalyca’s annual events which is designed for children to place away from their normal environment. The purpose of the trip is providing children with experiences outside their everyday activities. It combines fun activities and learning experiences so the children are encouraged to be more independent and resourceful.
This activity was followed by children age 1.5 to 6 years old. According to their ages and capabilities, the children are devided into two big groups with different destinations.
Dolan Deso Boro, Kulon Progo
The first group was nursery class. The students of nursery class had a field trip at Dolan Deso Boro, located on Desa Boro, Banjarasri, Kalibawang, Kulon Progo. Learning about local culture.
On Tuesday, 14th February, Kalyca elementary school students had a minitrip to Keraton Yogyakarta. We went there in order to learn about local culture In Yogyakarta, because we live in Yogyakarta, so we should know about the culture around us. We went to Keraton on Tuesday, because we planned to watch Karawitan (music instrument from Java, Gamelan). The students were so excited and they kept asking when we will go there.
We needed 10 minutes to arrive there by bus. Before we had a tour, we ate the snack together under a banyan tree in front of Keraton. Then, we entered Keraton in two groups with two guides. The guides explained about the history, the royal family, and the things inside the Keraton. The children were looking around enthusiastically. For upper elementary students, they took notes for a project.

As part of the preparation for adults’ life programme and gardening project, Adolescent Community students went to Pusat Satwa dan Tanaman Yogyakarta (PASTY) last February 21, 2017. As the name suggests, the market consists of kiosks selling various types animals and plants (ornamental plants). Located in Jl. Bantul Km 1/141, Dongkelan, Yogyakarta, the students were dropped by their parents and gathered there at 8:00 a.m.
There, the students were divided into three groups and assigned with different mission. Each group consisted of 4 students, both grade 7 and 8. The groups and missions details are as follows.

PG-KG Kalyca held a Family Day on February 18th, 2017 in Kalyca Montessori School Yogyakarta. This event took “Colours of You, Beautiful of Us” as a main theme. The participant of this event was PG-KG Kalyca students and their parents. The aims of this event were sharing happiness and make closer to each other. We spent four hour to this event.
Our first activity was ice breaking. In this sesion we had two greeting for man and woman. The first was “maju mundur cantik” for woman and the second was “kiri kanan gagah” for man. We also played “halo, apa kabar”.

In this event we had six fun games like spider web, pipe line, transfer holahop, tranfer rubber, water break, and bakiak. We divided the participant into six group. Each two group competed in every post game. Each group would get a star when they finished the game.

This time Kalyca Preschool went to Holland Be Living Bakey, Jl. Jend. Sudirman No. 48 C, Kotabaru, Yogyakarta. This minitrip was divided into two days, in January 26th and 27th, 2017. The first day was the 3-6 class with 38 children and 6 teachers who joined the cooking class. On the second day was nursery class’s (2-3 years) turn to do the cooking class, with 9 children and 4 teachers.
This time, children had the chance to make doughnut creation and saw the process of making bread. The theme for this activity was “create your own doughnut, as unique as you can”. Before decorated their doughnut, children were invited to see the process of making bread and how they packed it. After that, the chef showed how to make doughnut, from mixing all the ingredients, and how it baked in the oven.

The Christmas for Kalyca’s PG-KG was held on 13th of January 2017 in Putri Putri Yesus Kristus (PPYK) Dormitory. The place is located in Kregan, Pakemgedhe, Pakembinangun, Pakem, Sleman. The aim of this event was sharing the joyful of Christmas.
The theme for this Christmas was “For on this day, in the town of David, a Savior has come to birth, who is Christ the Lord (Luke 2 : 11 )”. The children, teachers and dormitory’s caretakers (nuns) were having worship together. They were singing, dancing and listening a story about Jesus.
The story was told by Pdt. Rena Sesaria Yudhita. She made collaboration with some Kalyca’s teachers to show a short drama to the children. The drama was about why Jesus comes to the world.
In the end of the event, the school gave donation, which were gathered from the parents, to the dormitory.
Hopefully, the joy of this Christmas always be with us.
